All the artworks belonging to the Barely Legal set are unsigned and Banksy replicated each print in 500 exemplars. The works of the Barely Legal set are sold all together.

The moment described by Banksy in the Grannies artwork takes place during teatime, when two grandmothers enjoy kitting sweaters.

The Grandma on the left is knitting a sweater with the words “PUNKS NOT DEAD”, while the grandma on the right is knitting a sweater featuring the words “THUG FOR LIFE”.

No matter the age, no matter where and no matter how: what you believe in and what you feel you are will never leave you. The two women work together and hand in hand, sharing both age a specific lifestyle.

The scene is perfectly symmetrical to the lamp placed in the centre, on a rounded, cute tea table. This game of symmetry reflects the message of Grannies screen print: the sweaters made by the grandmothers mirrors their mood and approach to life.

The proud faces of the Grannies do not lie: vitality and punk subculture are part of their being.
