Morons White by Banksy is an original serigraph on paper, edition 55/500 of 2007. This Banksy Morons White for Sale belongs to the Barely Legal Prints set that was first shown in 2006 at the Barely Legal Show in Los Angeles.
There are 150 exemplars of “Morons White” LA Edition: 100 unsigned and 50 signed. In addition, there are several versions of Morons in different colors: 500 white and unsigned exemplars, 300 sepia color signed units and 30 grey units.
Morons White is a largely monochromatic serigraph, with the exception of the gold frame on the right section of the screen print.
Banksy presents an auction scene in which many buyers are participating.
Facing the public, the auctioneer is handling the auction for the painting to his right: the situation would seem ordinary, but this painting says “I Can’t Believe You Morons actually Buy This S**t”.
The irony that emerges from the single element of the “framed painting” makes the whole work a satire.
The wit does not only refer to the painting’s object, but also to the painting itself.
With the word written by Banksy ‘i can’t Belive You Morons..‘ the street artist has created a product destined for the art market and at the same time he mocks the same world it in order to demolish its monetizing nature.
